In World of Warships Blitz, there are currently 5 types of armor: Bow, Stern, Deck or Superstructure, and the Belt. The ship's vital parts, such as the ammo storage and engine rooms, are protected by a citadel, which can be visualized as an open-bottomed (closed top) rectangular armored raft with sloped sides sitting within the hull of the ship. Although it was desirable for the citadel to be as small as possible, the space enclosed was an important source of reserve buoyancy, and helped prevent the ship from foundering when other compartments had flooded.

The citadel is normally located in the middle of the ship, and is roughly half the ship's length. As a rule-of-thumb, it is recommended to aim in the middle-upper of the ship (just below the smokestacks), when the player has a clear shot at the side of the ships. Keep in mind that bow shots tend to ricochet or no penetration.

In addition to belt armor, which protects battleships from direct fire, they also have deck armor that protects them from plunging fire—shells at extreme engagement ranges tend to hit the top of the ship. However, due to a large area that would have to be protected, battleships' deck armor is much thinner than the belt armor. As such, shells fired to strike the deck may be able to defeat the armor while those same shells may be incapable of penetrating the side armor of the target vessel.

Modules[]

There are multiple modules in-game: engine, propeller, torpedo tubes, main and secondary caliber turrets. The modules have two states: functioning and destroyed. A destroyed module loses function until it is repaired overtime or uses damage control consumable.

Each module has a chance to damage and destroy it. Once the module reaches zero HP, it is destroyed. However it can be repaired with consumables.

Shell Types[]

School Of Ships Ep. 2 Shell Types

World of Warships Blitz currently has three types of shells:

  • High-explosive (HE)
  • Armor-piercing (AP)
  • Semi-armor-piercing (SAP)

The ballistic models for AP, HE, and SAP shells are identical. Shell's in-game tracer may not coincide with the actual trajectory, in order to better visualize the shooting process. To distinguish AP from HE and SAP, AP shells are colored red, HE are orange, and SAP are yellow.

BULLET TYPE HE

High-Explosive (HE)[]

HE shells have less penetration power than AP shells of the same caliber, but they burst immeiately upon hitting a target so they will not over-penetrate or ricochet. They have a chance to set fire to the target.

Armor-Piercing (AP)[]

BULLET TYPE AP

Unlike HE, the AP shell does damage only if it penetrates the armor. AP shells have much greater penetration compared to HE shells of the same caliber, but their penetration power decreases as they travel through the air.

Semi-Armor-Piercing (SAP)[]

BULLET TYPE SAP

SAP shells are an effective intermediary between HE and AP shells. It penetrates less than AP shells but deals more damage that its counterparts. They do not over-penetrate, so they are very effective while fighting against lightly armored targets like destroyers or lightly-armored cruisers.

As of 3.2.1, only Italian ships can carry SAP shells.

Aiming[]

Properly angling the ship matters the penetration of AP shells. Unlike the main game, World of Warships, there is no angle mechanics that upon hitting the ship, gives you the "ricochet" or 0 damage. However, half-penetration can occur when angling, which reduces the shell damage by 50%. Non-penetration, or "ricochet" can occur when the penetration is not powerful enough to achieve half-penetration.
